Chapter 4

4. Law of Chastity

“We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.”
The Family: A Proclamation to the World

A loving Father in Heaven has provided us with the means to bring His spirit children into this world to fulfill the full measure of their creation. He has instructed us that the wellsprings of life are to be kept pure…This is one of the reasons why virtue and chastity are so important in our Father in Heaven’s plan.”
- Elder Quentin L. Cook (October 2009, Stewardship – A Sacred Trust)

The sacred powers of procreation are to only be used between husband and wife. These powers are given to us by God. These powers also give us the God-like attribute of creation. When we violate the gift of creation that our Father has given us, we disrespect him and ourselves. In Proverbs 31:10 it describes the worth of leading a virtuous life, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”
