10. Special
Circumstances
“Disability, death,
or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families
should lend support when needed.”
The Family: A Proclamation to the World
“Sometimes we don’t
understand death, illness, mental and physical disabilities, personal
tragedies, war, and other conflict. Some of these are a necessary part of our
mortal probation.”
-
Elder Robert D. Hales (April 2003, Faith
through Tribulation Brings Peace and Joy)
Tragedies happen. People get sick. People get injured. People
die. Life does not stop even though it may feel like it does. When tragedies
like this happen, the ward family and extended family should reach out and be
willing to help in any way possible. These tragedies may seem unfair, however
our trials make us stronger if we trust in our Savior and follow his example. In
the Church, we know that one day if we live a righteous life, we will be able to
live with our loved ones once again. This eternal perspective makes all the
difference.
