Chapter 9

Family Happiness

“Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Family: A Proclamation to the World

From the very beginning, the responsibility of parents teaching their children was among the instructions the Lord gave to our first earthly parents.”
- Elder L. Tom Perry (May 1994, Therefore I Was Taught)

The picture to the right is a picture of my nephews (ages 3 and 1) looking at Book of Mormon storybooks. As parents, we have been charged to love, protect, and raise these children in righteousness. Beginning to teach children the gospel at a young age will help them understand the importance of why they are here and help them know that they have a loving heavenly Father that wants them to return to him. Teaching children may be difficult, but it is worth it.
