6. The Family
“The family is
ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal
plan. Children are entitled to birth within bonds of matrimony, and to be
reared by a father and a mother who honor martial vows with complete fidelity.
. . Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on
principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love,
compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”
The Family: A Proclamation to the World
“The
family is the most important unit in time and in eternity and, as such,
transcends every other interest in life.”
-
President Howard W. Hunter (November 1994, Being a Righteous Husband and Father)
The
family is under attack. In media, there are hardly any shows or movies that
have two loving parents. There is often one parent, or several parents because
of divorce. It is shown so often, that it has become normal, even in children’s
shows. The adversary is working its hardest to destroy the family. Since the
adversary is trying so hard, the family must be important. In fact it is a key
point in the path to eternal and everlasting life in the Celestial Kingdom. Being
born into a loving family with a father and mother who have been married and
sealed in the temple is the most ideal circumstance. Love in the home can be
strengthened by adherence to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
